Dealing with Climate Change impacts

The Eurobodalla’s natural beauty attracts permanent residents and visitors alike. Our shire has been feeling the brunt of increased frequency and intensity of fire, rain and storms, impacting our safety, homes, businesses, natural environment. It is also affecting council expenditure with more frequent need to fix roads, erosion and facilities.

Eurobodalla communities are still dealing with the trauma and aftermath of bushfires. Older residents in particular are at greater risk of health impacts from heat and smoke.

Communities like Tuross Head and Potato Point with just one main road of access in and out, are at risk of a catastrophic bushfire.

Long Beach and Maloneys Beach are some of the many areas impacted by erosion.

Corunna and smaller communities to the west of the Princes Highway face increased flooding risk.

A Labor will make a workable Climate Action Plan a priority, with clear council responsibilities for preparation and response, not just wishy-washy words.

We want to see:

  • FREE Heat havens for families, older people and people with disabilities who need access to air conditioned centres with cool water.

  • FREE green waste disposal all year round, so that people can reduce the bushfire risk on their properties.

  • A partnership with local Aboriginal leaders to tap into this incredible wealth of knowledge and advice on protecting our natural assets and our community.

  • Clear and practical preparedness plans for each Eurobodalla community.
