A Labor Council will make affordable housing the top priority

Housing to meet the needs of everyone

Mayoral candidate Sharon Winslade said she is continually hearing stories from local residents who have been priced out of the housing market, and says that high-rise apartment blocks will not deliver affordable housing.

"We still have families searching for a stable home since losing their properties to bushfire. Older women all across the Eurobodalla are concerned about the lack of smaller properties to rent, especially women living alone. There are not enough accessible properties for people with disabilities."

"AND we need a steady supply of additional housing to meet the growing tourism, health and aged care workforces, especially in Moruya as the new hospital is built."

“High rise developments may deliver apartments with great views to some residents and holiday-makers, but cannot deliver affordable housing to the majority of our residents.”

“High rise developments with high annual strata fees cannot deliver affordable housing.”

"Planning for housing is a bread-and-butter issue of council and Eurobodalla Council needs to play its part to address the affordable housing shortage."

A Labor Council will involve our local residents in planning to accommodate our current and future housing needs, and will learn from the affordable housing actions taken by Bega Valley Council and Shoalhaven Council.
